Introducing...our new interns from EARTH University! From left to right we have: Heinert (from Ecuador), Alexis (from Ecuador), Ricardo (our Program Impact Officer), and Abner (from Guatemala).
We are delighted to introduce to you our three incredible interns from EARTH University, who will be spending the next semester with us. Heinert will be interning with us in Honduras, Alexis will be interning with us in Belize, and Abner will be interning with us in Panama.
We'd like to tell you a little more about each of these excellent, smart, and dedicated humans, starting with Heinert.
Who are you?
My name is Heinert and I grew up in Sucumbios in the East Region of Ecuador (Amazons). I’ve spent most of my life so far in the field, close to nature. During my lifetime, I’ve witnessed the natural world being degraded, whether due to a lack of knowledge or from greed. I’ve seen people who want to exploit the natural resources without caring for the environment or the people
¿Quién soy?
Mi nombre es Heinert crecí en la provincia de Sucumbíos en la región del oriente (Amazonia), la mayor parte de mi vida he permanecido en el campo disfrutando de la naturaleza, también en este transcurso he podido observar el deterioro de la naturaleza por razones de desconocimiento o solamente por la ambición de explotar un recurso para su beneficio económico sin importarles el daño que causan.
What are your future goals?
I want to help to create a better equilibrium between society and nature while improving the economic situation of people living in rural areas. I want to help people keep producing food without destroying nature’s beauty.
¿Qué quiero en el futuro?
En mi futuro quiero poder ayudar a construir un equilibrio en la naturaleza, logrando que se mejore las condiciones económicas de las personas del campo pero sin que ellos las destruyan si no que puedan aprovechar sus recursos de una forma que no causen daño y que mejoren sus terrenos cultivables y podamos seguir teniendo la hermosura de la naturaleza con todos sus ecosistemas de vida.
Why are you studying at EARTH University?
Making the decision to study at EARTH University was one of the easiest decisions I’ve made in my life. EARTH’s mission and vision are exactly what I was looking for in my professional development. The only sacrifice I’m making is being away from my family and the people I love, but I’ll go back to them with new knowledge that will improve the situation in my community.
¿Por qué estudiar en la Universidad EARTH?
El decidir estudiar en la Universidad EARTH fue muy fácil tomar esta decisión, ya que su misión y visión son lo que buscaba para mi preparación, debido a que me permite desarrollarme en lo académico y vivir disfrutando la naturaleza como también lo más importante la ayuda para poder construir con las poblaciones un sistema sustentable y amigable con el medio ambiente, aunque un pequeño sacrificio fue el alejarme de mis seres queridos durante mi preparación con la misión de regresar ayudar al desarrollo sustentable de las poblaciones.
What made you want to intern with Sustainable Harvest International?
I wanted to intern with Sustainable Harvest International based on the type of work and knowledge the organization has. I want to learn as much as possible so that I’ll be able to help the communities around the region where I’m from in Ecuador.
¿Porque SHI (que espera)?
El aplicar para pasantía en SHI lo decidí porque está enfocado a construir con las poblaciones un progreso en su desarrollo rural en la producción de cultivos de una forma integrada sin destruir todo a su alrededor siempre pensando al futuro, esto conllevo a mi interés de poder participar en el desarrollo del proyecto que llevan a cabo y que con la experiencia que pueda obtener para lograr efectuar mis metas a futuro en el desarrollo comunitario.
What are your dreams?
My dream is to be a fully formed professional agronomist. This will ensure that I’ll contribute high quality work in order to avoid and prevent nature’s destruction. I want people to be able to use their ecosystems without disturbing or overstepping the balance.
¿Que sueña?
Mi sueño es lograr prepararme profesionalmente para poder contribuir con un participación de calidad y evitar que las personas destruyan los recursos que tienen a su alrededor por desconocimiento en vez de que puedan destruirlos logren aprovechar los ecosistemas que estén hay sin causar un desequilibrio en la naturaleza.
