Our Founder + Director of Strategic Growth, Florence Reed spoke at one of the Clinton Global Initiative’s (CGI) Spotlight Sessions, “Preserving Our Planet through Sustainable Land Management.”

She highlighted our nearly 30 years of regenerative agriculture efforts. She also discussed our newly launched TREE program, which will incentivize farmers to contribute to sustainable and organic markets, and our upcoming film, “Roots of Renewal,” along with their relevance to our Commitment to Action in CGI’s Climate Resilience category.

what

Sustainable Harvest International (SHI) is proud to announce, as part of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) 2023 meeting, plans for our new TREE (Training to Expand Ecoagriculture) program in partnership with the Honduran Institute for Professional Development (INFOP).

As part one of CGI’s new “Commitment Makers,” SHI will carry out a 3-year program to:

• enable 1,200 smallscale farmers to regenerate over 12,800 acres of degraded land

• plant 1 million trees

• increase incomes and food security for 8,000 people.

WHY

Collectively, smallholder farmers hold the power to significantly impact the global climate.

If all 500 million smallholder farms transition to regenerative practices, they could sequester 8 gigatons of CO2 per year.

That equals 53% of the total change needed from emission reductions and sequestration, according to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals).

how

The TREE program in Honduras will be based on a successful pilot project, Promoter 4 Change. The program has a $5 million budget, much of which has already been pledged. We will focus on raising the remaining funds with the help of Clinton Global Initiative’s network.
