GET INVOLVED
Create a Smaller World

SHI's work with over 900 families to address the issues of poverty and deforestation depends on your support!  Please consider some of the many ways you and your community can get involved:

Smaller World Community Program
Your community group or family can become directly connected with our work with a community in Central America.  Learn more about our Smaller World Program.
Smaller World Business Partners

Show your customers that you are doing your part to protect the planet. The Smaller World Business Partners program enables your company to become directly involved in our work.

Financial Contributions

Each year we are approached by hundreds of families desperate for our support.  We need your help to provide the programs communities depend on and ask for to create a sustainable future for their children.  If you have never made a contribution to SHI, please consider joining the many caring individuals who are making a difference in our global community by giving their support.  If you are a long time supporter, thank you!  Your support ensures that families in need of our assistance will get the help they need.  There are many giving options to choose from including giving in the name of a friend or family member, becoming a sustainer by giving on a monthly or quarterly basis or joining our Legacy Society by remembering SHI in your will.

Host an SHI Event

Share SHI's efforts to end poverty and deforestation in Central America with your community.  You can help spread the word about SHI's vital work by hosting a fundraising/outreach event.  Host a dinner, invite one of our staff or volunteers to give a presentation in your town, work with your school to create an event that will raise awareness about the global issues we address-and maybe raise some valuable funding to support our efforts as well!  Outreach director, Sarah Kennedy, would be happy to brainstorm event ideas with you and provide you with the materials you need.  Some event ideas are posted here.  Looking for informaiton on an SHI event near you?  Click here.

Volunteer

Stateside:

We are always looking for volunteers to help with our outreach and development efforts here in the states.  Do you have a special interest, talent or skill that might be of use to our efforts?  Please tell us about it.

Currently we are looking for volunteers to help out in our Main Office in Blue Hill, Maine as well as volunteers to help in our new Outreach Office in Carrboro, North Carolina.  We can always use general office assistance with outreach efforts, fundraising, website work, data base updating, grant writing, event coordination, publication design and to take on special projects either from our office locations or from your home

In the Field:

   Smaller World Trips
Our Smaller World service based trips offer supporters the opportunity to truly experience rural life in Honduras, Belize, Nicaragua and Panama while making a positive impact on the global community.  Groups and individuals that take part in these trips get to see Sustainable Harvest International's work first-hand while participating in a service project.  Click here to learn more about the Smaller World Program and Smaller World Trip

 Internships in Central America
Sustainable Harvest International's Field Program welcomes the support of interns each year.  Interns work with our country programs in Honduras, Belize, Nicaragua and Panama and assist our extensionists on one or more existing projects.  Internship positions are unpaid and last for three or more months.  Click here to learn more.

Special Volunteer Projects:
Currently, we are looking to fill the following volunteer positions:

Volunteer Coordinator:  We are looking for an outgoing individual to help coordinate volunteer activities and events.  Please contact our Maine office *link to Bobs email* to learn more about this exciting opportunity.

Media Outreach:  Help develop and implement SH's first media campaign.  We are looking for a dedicated volunteer who is able to spend at least 3 hours a week helping us to spread the word about SHI using media resources.  We would like this individual to help with press releases, generating a media contacts data base and help with our media and marketing campaigns.  This person could work from home or from our office.

Smaller World Business Partners Program Assistant:  Looking for a volunteer to help manage our new Smaller World Business Partners Program.  Ideally this person would work out of our Outreach Office in Carrboro, North Carolina for several hours every week.

Please contact the SHI office  if you are interested in any of these opportunities.
